Who

I’m a 25yr old web developer living in the UK.  I spend long hours in front of a PC tapping away at a keyboard which does my body the world of good.  I spent 5yrs of my life in uni throwing just about every toxin known to man at my body while making inhumane demands of it.  Now I think its time to start looking after it…

Why

I’m doing the blog as it’ll help me stay accountable to myself and the wider world.  I can’t slack off without someone passing comment or it being public knowledge.  Its harder to fail publicly than privately.  So hopefully this will help keep me going when I’m feeling off or down and don’t have the motivation.

But WHY the training?

Several reasons but I think it hit me most of all on my 25th birthday.  I no longer had that feeling of invincibility that had surrounded me most of my life.  I’ve shovelled more crap into my body with bad food, drink, smoke, etc and just never cared.  I always thought – ‘I’m young and my body can take it’.

Well now – I’m not so young.

There’s only so long you can keep treating your body like shit before it packs up and moves out.

I suppose you could call it a quarter-life crisis

With time flying as fast as it is nowadays with weeks feeling like days and months feeling like weeks.  I don’t want to suddenly wake up tomorrow a 60yr old heart disease and stroke victim wondering where my youthful resilience went.

If not now – when?

Other Reasons include…

  • I do ju jutsu and I get embarrassingly tired during fights, training and grading.
  • It feels good to run, jump, push, pull, twist, dive and just MOVE!
  • I spend WAY too much time in front of a PC.  8hrs minimum at an office + 6-11 at home.  At weekends its worse because I don’t get driving the 10mins home/work time.  This will ultimately drive me insane and ill.
  • Vanity.
  • I like pain!

When

I started ‘thinking’ about this level of training since July.  I’ve been gradually getting healthier since I started up running in 2007 to complete a half-marathon in April 2008.  I jacked it all in though but now I’ve started on the programme full time and plan on getting my body into peak condition, keeping it there and reaping the benefits.  My first day was the October 16th ICT Workout and I started that shortly after getting Ross Enamait’s 3 books and DVD – which I’d highly recommend!

Goals

As well as the above I want some distinct numbers and targets to aim for.  These are just a few and it’ll be constantly being added to and hopefully increased as I attain them.

  • 100 push ups non-stop
  • 100 burpees.
  • An L-sit off the ground.
  • 5 handstand push ups.
  • A handstand!!
  • 50 pull ups.
  • Do the front and side splits.
  • Do the jump off the ground onto your feet that all the cool martial arts people do!!!!!!1111
  • Full bridge.
  • Cart wheel.

Qualifications

I have none in fitness or health care and don’t claim to.  I just read a lot about the subject and train in ju jutsu.  If you want to do a workout yourself then:

  • Speak to your doctor.
  • Read of good books (e.g. Ross Enamait, Bas Rutten, Pavel, etc)
  • Or skip that and speak to a personal trainer/coach.
  • If you die – you’re an idiot.
