Solo MMA Drills – Video 2

Another great drill video but this time concentrating on the shrimping technique. I use this technique as part of my existing drill routines.

Solo MMA Drills – Video 1

Found a good video for anyone wanting to do solo MMA/Ju jutsu drills and you haven’t got a partner.

Good Wooden Weapons in the UK

If you live in the UK and want good quality bo, hanbo, jo,etc then take a look at Nine Circles. I recently bought a white oak hanbo from there and its fantastic quality. Very good grain and very solid. I’m planning on restocking on their white oak bo.

New Koryu Schedule

My ju jutsu organisation is now running a revised schedule so we get to use more weapons throughout the month:
Week 1: Ken/Iaijutsu – Currently using bokto and practicing kata.
Week 2: Jujutsu & some hanbo.
Week 3: Bojutsu – I really like the 6 foot staff. Its powerful and useful. When you get good at it then [...]

Final Training Routine

This is for the long haul now after numerous changes. Now I’ve learnt how my body works and read up on just about every source I can lay my hands on I think I’m pretty happy with the following:

Monday: Conditioning (MMA workout, ICT, EIT, etc)
Tuesday: Ju Jutsu (dojo) + Strength
Wednesday: Koryu/Kobudo + Yoga
Thursday: Conditioning (MMA [...]

Day 51: Warm Up and Skills

With it being a lay off week and my grading on tomorrow I spent the day doing skills work, reading, studying and active-relaxation with some iaijutsu.

The skills work I started off by doing 3 x 3 min rounds of Bas’ [...]

Re Programming!!!

Once again I’ve decided to redo the programme.  Its getting increasingly difficult to keep tabs on what day has what – even when its in my face on the wall every day.
Another problem I’m having is the clashing with ju jutsu and ken jutsu.  If I’m doing a 5 or 6 day split then its [...]

Kenjutsu

It was fantastic and the hakama is no longer quite as confusing.  I posted the other day about not having a clue how to wear one but after being shown the way to tie the knots properly I was fully kitted up.
We did 3 main katas of the school I’m in: Enshin Ryu.
I can’t go [...]

Harsh Few Days (Days 27-29)

The past few days have been pretty painful.  For some reason this lay off week is becoming a serious necessity as opposed to a planned relaxation.
On Tuesday (Day 27) I had a Ju Jutsu class which resulted in me feeling like road kill.  I’ve never normally felt as bad as I did that day and [...]

Hakama Confusion

I do kenjutsu as well as my usual ju jutsu class and on Wednesday I’ll be wearing my hakama for the first time.  I’ve just worn my gi previously but decided to go all out and get the proper gear.
Having tried it on before the big day I have to say: Its complicated as hell!!!
How [...]
