I’ve been training in Ju Jutsu since Febuary 2008 at my West Midlands club: Tai Jutsu Kai.

NB: I did do about 2 months of training at the club prior to this in 2006 but had to stop for personal reasons.

My sensei and club founder is Ross Ianaccaro who set up the organisation in 1982 – a year before I was even born!!  He’s been on the front cover of Combat magazine twice and has a huge wealth of experience training police and military.

I’m immensely proud to be a member of the club and be trained by such a great sensei!!

The patron of the club is Soke Fumon Tanaka.  One of Japans greatest swordsmen (recognised by the Japanese government).  I’ve had the great pleasure of meeting the Soke in October 2008 when he came to do a seminar with his daughter Shihan Midori Tanaka and his 2 chief instructors: Shihan Yoshi Nakamura and Shihan Taeko Okino.

I’m currently a yellow belt (2nd Kyu) and will be grading for orange in December.

Training

I’ve already mentioned in a post but I’ll put it again:

  • Tuesday: 1hr 15mins
  • Friday: 1hr 15mins
  • As well as doing practice during the week.
  • I’ve done some classical weapons training which I’m hoping to continue in November and that is on Wednesdays

Seminars

  • Bladed Weapons Seminar: 22 June ‘08
  • Classical Weapons (Soke Fumon Tanaka): 19 October ‘08

Competitions

  • Grappling & Submission Championships: 12 October ‘08

I plan on doing a LOT more competition in the form of kumite and grappling.  In 3-4yrs time I’ll consider free fighting in the Grapple and Strike tournaments.  If I think I’m up to it physically. :)
